Life in the Cracks 1
The Dumpster Series

Picture1_edited_edited_edited_edited.jpg

During the pandemic, on one of my visits to the dumpster, I noticed weeds and plants growing out of the cracks in the asphalt. I thought about those being effected physically, socially, economically, and mentally from the effects of Covid and its impact on our society. From these cracks I saw plant life growing in spite of the surrounding harsh environment.  I wove this piece with a feeling of hope.

Technique: plain weave, rigid heddle loom, 15 epi, inlays, warp wrapping.

Materials: Warp - 10/1 linen

Weft - eye lash, cotton and wool yarn.

Size: 7 x 5"

Resilience

Along side of the sidewalk are beautiful purple flowers. Because of their proximity to the pathway, they get trampled every day. However, they are back in two days. I was quite inspired by the resilience of these tiny flowers. Nature continuously teaches us great lessons.
